Foamers
Foamers
- In foam / underbalanced drilling, foamers are added to water plus injected gas (air, N2) to generate a stable, low-density foam drilling fluid.
- The foam carries cuttings, controls bottomhole pressure, and reduces fluid invasion and formation damage compared with conventional liquid muds.

- Onshore: Used in air/foam drilling of low-pressure or depleted formations, and in areas where minimizing liquid disposal is important.
- Offshore: Applied in specialized underbalanced/managed-pressure and loss-prone intervals where low equivalent density and good hole cleaning are needed.
- Other Features
- Pipeline cleaning: Foamers are used with foam pigs to generate cleaning foam inside pipelines.
- Well cleanout / gas-well unloading: Foamers help lift liquids from gas wells by foaming produced water and reducing its density
