Wetting Agents and Thinners
Wetting Agents and Thinners
Wetting agents and thinners are key drilling-fluid additives that control how mud wets solids and how thick or thin it flows, which directly affects hole cleaning, rate of penetration, and wellbore stability.

- On Shore and Offshore
- Used both onshore and offshore in OBM/SBM systems to: improve rheology, keep barite and cuttings suspended, enhance hole cleaning, and maintain emulsion stability at high temperature and pressure.
- Consumed as they coat new water-wet solids, so they are added continuously while drilling.
- Other Features
Can help retard dispersion of gas-hydrate solids, improve coating of solids in specialty completion/workover OBM, and assist in some friction-reducer and lubricant packages.
