COMPLETION AND WORKOVER FLUIDS
Sodium Bromide(Liquid/Solid)
Sodium bromide (NaBr) is a white, crystalline salt that is highly soluble in water and commonly supplied as solid or concentrated brine (liquid)
areas of application
- In the oil and gas industry, sodium bromide (NaBr) is used to formulate high-density completion fluids, which play a critical role in well control, formation protection, and efficient wellbore operations.
- Formation pressure → choose required fluid density → dissolve solid NaBr in water → get high-density clear brine → pump brine into wellbore → hydrostatic column pressure ≥ formation pressure → prevents influx/blowout and supports borehole wall.
Other Fields
- Photography: reacts with silver nitrate to form light-sensitive silver bromide in films and papers; also used in developers to reduce fogging.
- Medicine: intermediate in producing sedatives and some diuretics.
- Chemical industry: starting material for other bromine compounds, dyes, and fragrances. brine reducing damage.
